We are looking for qualified archaeological fieldwork supervisors who are tired of being an employee number in a system rather than a valuable member of a team. If you feel you are ready to move up to Field Director we want to speak with you!

Our Burnaby office has positions available for full time Archaeologists who are on track to becoming a Field Director (as per Bulletin 17).  Our team is progressive, innovative, collaborative, and seeks to contribute to the understanding of BC’s long and rich history. Qualified supervisor will be provided full support, and any additional training and mentoring that is needed during the first term of employment to prepare the candidate for their field director application to the BC Archaeology Branch.

Job Description

Primary Responsibility: to conduct and supervise archaeological field work meeting ARCHER and stakeholder standards, including but not limited to:

  • Active participation in archaeological field assessments in supervisory capacity;
  • Adhering to ARCHER CRM Partnership’s OH&S and Quality Assurance programs;
  • Provide direction to archaeological assistants;
  • Co-ordinate with Project Lead  to satisfy client needs;
  • Will involve frequent travel to other ARCHER CRM Partnership offices and jobsites.


  • Valid Class 5 Driver License;
  • Canadian Citizen;
  • Consistent availability to work away from home office at remote job sites and offices;
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology/Anthropology;
  • Has at least 360 days of consulting field experience in BC under permit.
  • Demonstrated experience in identifying, recording, documenting, and suggesting to a supervisor management recommendations for found archaeological remains, including features;
  • Must provide an up-to-date ‘experience summary spreadsheet’ as per Archaeology Branch Bulletin 17 (available here);
  • Must provide a list of reports available on PARL in which supervisory work is clearly listed;
  • Eligible to work in Canada under a presently valid work visa.

Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:

  • Demonstrated ability to navigate;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team environment;
  • Basic understanding of lithic technology, GPS terminology and mapping techniques;
  • Experience working in urban environments in close collaboration with construction crews;
  • Safe operation of vehicles, ATV, snowmobiles, and other devices;
  • That at least one reference provided be an individual who can comment directly on the applicant’s supervisory time;
  • Be a Canadian citizen.

Preferred Certifications:

  • First Aid Level 1 and Transportation Endorsement;
  • H2S Alive, WHMIS, TDG;
  • ATV Rider Safety and Snow Pro;
  • Bear Aware.
