Baseline Archaeological Services is seeking a Senior Archaeologist to join our rapidly growing team of professionals. This is a full-time, permanent role based in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island.

Responsibilities

  • Manage projects and meet deadlines for project deliverables
  • Lead crews in carrying out archaeological assessments in the form of excavating evaluative units, conducting forest surveys and shovel tests, and machine monitoring
  • Prepare pre-work packages, including client cost estimates, First Nation referrals, and safety documentation
  • Plan and coordinate fieldwork logistics (i.e. crew scheduling, equipment preparation, travel)
  • Manage post-field work data and materials analysis
  • Write reports, and complete and submit site forms in accordance with government policies
  • Consult with local First Nations, and work alongside community members and other personnel
  • Provide regular updates to clients, First Nations, and regulatory personnel on project progress
  • Help train and mentor junior staff where necessary
  • Be knowledgeable of, and adhere to the policies and standards of local First Nations, the BC Archaeology Branch, and the Heritage Conservation Act

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree (or greater) in Archaeology or Anthropology
  • Completion of an archaeological field school, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in archaeological consulting in BC
  • Field Director status with the BC Archaeology Branch, or eligible to apply
  • Preference given to applicants with Permit Holder status with the BC Archaeology Branch
  • must possess a valid class 5 BC Driver’s license

Compensation

Remuneration for this position is between $35 and $45, commensurate with experience. Baseline also offers a comprehensive benefits package and annual field gear allowances.
