Permit Holders and Field Directors

Salary $75,000-$100,000 annually
Location Various Locations, BC


We are currently located in Prince George and in Salmon Arm, BC but with the mobility to work anywhere in the province.

Ridgeline Archaeology is currently seeking talented Field Directors and Permit Holders to provide responsible company leadership and efficient project management. They will contribute to year round field assessments, research and report writing. The successful candidates will be expected to demonstrate proficiency in oral and written communication, attention to detail, the ability to mentor staff in a positive manner and to produce high quality reports.


  • Obtain and hold Heritage Inspection Permits within BC, Alberta and the Yukon (Permit Holders).
  • Lead field crews on archaeological impact assessments (Field Directors).
  • Produce high-quality technical reports in accordance with the BC Archaeology Branch permit requirements including interim, site, and final reports.
  • Incorporate data from the field, RAAD, PARL, and other historic or ethnographic sources.
  • Produce detail oriented technical reports both independently and in a collaborative team environment.
  • Set priorities, multitask on several projects, and meet project deadlines.


  • Bachelor’s degree (Graduate degree preferred) in Archaeology or Anthropology or in a related field of study.
  • A minimum of two years of experience with project supervision and writing and editing high-quality technical and professional reports.
  • Valid First Aid, WHMIS, Drivers License, and H2S.
  • Demonstrated understanding and working knowledge of the standards of archaeological permitting and reporting procedures under the BC Heritage Conservation Act and other jurisdictions.
  • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite, professional mapping and using digital data.
  • Basic knowledge of GIS and an ability to interpret maps relating to fieldwork.
  • Communicate professionally and effectively with staff, First Nations, clients and other stakeholders to successfully facilitate report compilation.


  • A competitive wage commensurate with your education, skills, and experience. Field directors start at $75k/year (more for multiple areas) with annual raises and they are expected to work on surveys during the field season.
  • Permit holders start at $100k/year and increases with each extra culture area obtained, with annual raises and/or bonuses. The successful applicant will also receive RRSPs, professional development, and our health and benefits package. Although some travel will be necessary, Permit Holders working from a remote or home office is negotiable for much of the year.
