Position Summary:

Along with the Musqueam archaeological and broader Intergovernmental Affairs team, responsible for ensuring the respectful management of Musqueam heritage resources. In particular responsible for activities related to heritage permitting such as overseeing the review, response, and issuance of Musqueam Heritage Investigation/Research Permits as well as responses to BC Heritage Conservation Act (HCA) Permits. The successful applicant does not need background knowledge of archaeology or heritage management, skills and knowledge development will be supported through mentorship and on-the-job training. This job is well suited with someone who has computer experience and skills and a drive to learn more about heritage and archaeology, the successful applicant may be privy to confidential and sensitive information and will not divulge said confidential information to other parties or use said information to their profit.


  • Learning about archaeological process
  • Reviewing HCA permit applications and issuing responses
  • Reviewing Musqueam Heritage Investigation/Research Permits and providing issuance recommendations to Senior Archaeologist
  • Receiving and tracking permit fees and issuing permits (if accepted by Senior Archaeologist)
  • Tracking permit requirements and obligation fulfillment
  • Reviewing draft permit reports and providing feedback
  • Scheduling archaeological field technicians
  • Invoicing for field technicians
  • Working with the broader team to update heritage policies and permits, and procedures as required
  • Working with the GIS department to maintain a spatial database of permitted work
  • Other duties as required

Job Knowledge:  

The work requires the following knowledge, skill and/or abilities:

  • Computer literacy required, must be proficient in the use of Microsoft (Outlook, Word, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat
  • Cultural competency and knowledge of the MIB’s cultural traditions an asset
  • Knowledge of BC Archaeology an asset
  • Knowledge of the Heritage Conservation Act and Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples Act an asset


  • Work requires group facilitation, interpersonal communications and working collaboratively with the MIB’s Intergovernmental Affairs team

Working Conditions:

  • Work is performed primarily in the office with some site visits as required
  • Current and valid Driver’s License an asset.
  • Successful Criminal Record Check.
