ROY NORTHERN LAND AND ENVIRONMENTAL is an expanding progressive surface land and environmental consulting firm with a special interest in oil and gas, forestry, mining, energy, and agricultural industries, as well as municipal authorities throughout Alberta, British Columbia and Canada’s north. We employ a team of over 70 staff members located in our Fairview, Calgary, Fort St. John, and Terrace offices, and we offer interdisciplinary expertise to develop environmental solutions for our clients throughout western Canada.  For 40 years, we have directly assisted clients in regulatory application, and have provided consulting expertise on environmental legislation, regulations and guideline compliance related to project planning, development and reclamation. We are currently recruiting for a full time or hourly Labourer/Field Assistant to assist field crews with archaeological and environmental field work, maintain equipment, and provide general labourer services.  We are looking for the right candidate who enjoys physical work, the great outdoors, crossing over to various disciplines, learning different skills, and working with a diverse team. We are also willing to train the right candidate with required competencies.


  • High School Graduate or Equivalent (preferred but not required)
  • Current Safety Tickets (preferred)
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License
  • Canadian Citizen or Permanent Residency


  • Superior attention to detail and ability to produce deliverables on time
  • Ability to manage time and priorities effectively
  • Strong commitment to health and safety, good situational awareness
  • Strong verbal communication
  • Mechanical aptitude and field experience
  • Ability to drive trucks, tow trailers, and operate ATVs/UTVs (preferred)
  • Receive direction, help troubleshoot problems as they may arise
  • Ability to work under harsh conditions and weather on occasion
  • Physically fit and can endure long days in the field in challenging terrain
  • Strong commitment to client satisfaction


  • Working with a dynamic team of other archaeology and environmental professionals in the field
  • Assisting with archaeology assessments for forestry and oil and gas projects
  • Assisting with environmental, wildlife, and stream assessments on occasion
  • Maintaining equipment and/or coordinating equipment for repairs
  • Manually digging holes/test pits for data collection
  • Hauling test soils to lab for processing
  • Undertake assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home/office
