Junior Archaeologist (6-month contract)

Your Opportunity

We are looking to expand our archaeological team. Entry level, full time seasonal (6-month contract) archaeologist position based out of the Quesnel or Prince George office. Work will take place throughout British Columbia, in various industries.

Your Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in identifying and recording areas of archaeological potential, archaeological sites, and traditional use sites.
  • Work closely with a Field Director/Supervisor to make technical recommendations for cultural resources management.
  • Collect field data.
  • Participate in preliminary field reconnaissance surveys and archaeological impact assessments.
  • Assist in archaeological monitoring and excavations.
  • Manage field equipment.
  • Actively participate in Stantec’s HSSE programs.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

  • Basic working understanding of policies and procedures for HSSE, including client-specific training (as required).
  • Basic knowledge of field sampling techniques.
  • Must have the willingness to learn new skills while conducting field work in rural wilderness settings and flexibility in undertaking work assignments and work independently for long hours in the field as necessary.
  • Basic experience/knowledge of hazardous materials as well as a 40 – hour hazardous waste operations and emergency response certificate are desirable.
  • Demonstrates use and understanding of policies and procedures as appropriate to their work.
  • Basic understanding of technical writing skills.
  • Shows initiative in integrating creativity and innovation in all work tasks.
  • Exhibits a strong attention to detail.
  • Conscientious, organized, and disciplined.
  • Open minded and curious; shows an ability to focus on possibilities, not preconceived solutions.
  • Builds and maintains productive professional and personal networking relationships within their technical team and Business Center.
  • Good driving record and valid driver’s license required.

Education and Experience

A Bachelor’s degree in Anthropology or Archaeology is required.

As an entry level position, previous cultural resource management experience is not required.

Participation in an archaeological field school is seen as an asset.

Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
