Our Burnaby office has positions available for full time Coastal Archaeological Field Directors (as per Bulletin 17). ARCHER is currently involved in numerous multi-year projects with consistent work in the Greater Vancouver area. We are working collaboratively with local First Nations on these projects and are seeking to increase our team’s capacity to meet the region’s growing requirements. Working in the lower mainland will be the primary assignment, however ARCHER works in all regions of B.C. with numerous Clients and Nations. Potential regions include work along the coast from Vancouver to Haida Gwaii, Interior region from the Similkameen to Atlin and also in the NE Peace Region.

Job Description:

Primary Responsibility: to conduct and lead archaeological field work meeting ARCHER CRM Partnership and stakeholder standards, including but not limited to:

  • Archaeological field assessments in a supervisory capacity;
  • Adhere to ARCHER CRM Partnership OH&S and Quality Assurance programs;
  • Provide direction to archaeological assistants;
  • Work well with First Nations and their knowledge holders;
  • Co-ordinate with Project Lead(s) to satisfy client needs;
  • On an as-needed basis, assist Project Director(s) with project co-ordination;
  • May involve travel to other ARCHER CRM Partnership offices & jobsites.


  • Valid Class 5 Driver License;
  • Be a Branch-approved field director for the coastal region of BC;
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology/Anthropology/Earth Sciences;
  • Eligible to work in Canada under a presently valid work visa .

Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:

  • That at least one reference provided be an individual who can comment directly on the applicant’s supervisory time;
  • Meet the qualifications for applying for Permit Holder status but have not applied for such yet;
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team environment, coordinating with field team and taking direction from Project Leads, the Regional Manager, and/or Directors;
  • Be a Canadian citizen.

Preferred Certifications:

  • First Aid Level 1;
  • WHMIS;
  • ARCHER will provide additional training opportunities as needs arise.


  • $65,000 to $80,000 per annum commensurate with demonstrated experience;
  • A competitive Benefits package is available to qualifying employees;
  • Sub-contracting to ARCHER is possible and can be negotiated.
