Job Description:

Yucwmenlúcwu (Caretakers of the Land) LLP is seeking an Archaeologist – Project Manager for a full-time position in Enderby, BC. We are a growing cultural and natural resource management company under the Splatsin Development Corporation. Our approach is focused on the protection and conservation of archaeological resources and their connection to Secwepemc people, culture, and traditions. Yucwmenlúcwu provides technical support to the Splatsin community and archaeological services to our many clients and partners.

We are seeking a highly skilled individual who wishes to join our diverse team of professionals. This position will involve both field and office based responsibilities, including project management, archaeological assessments, historical research, client liaison and supervision. Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop, plan and implement archaeological assessments and projects
  • Manage archaeological projects and cultural resource protection initiatives
  • Complete archaeological field assessments, research, permitting, and reporting
  • Review archaeological referrals and provide technical recommendations
  • Assist with the First Nations consultation process relating to archaeological resources
  • Liaise with First Nations, proponents, landowners, and regulatory agencies
  • Develop and foster working relationships and promote business development
  • Prepare and review work plans, proposals, budgets, and guidance documents
  • Mentor, train, and supervise junior archaeologists and Splatsin community technicians

Minimum Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology with a minimum of six years’ experience
  • Minimum of 2 years’ direct project management and supervisory experience
  • Demonstrated understanding of the Heritage Conservation Act and regulatory processes
  • Eligible to hold Heritage Conservation Act Section 12 and Section 14 permits in the Interior Plateau culture area
  • Demonstrated proficiency managing and delivering projects on time and budget
  • Proven ability to mentor, train, and supervise junior staff
  • Ability to work in a fast paced, deadline oriented environment
  • Strong aptitude for technical writing and reporting
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently with a diverse team
  • Discretion and respect for confidentiality
  • Positive, diplomatic, and understanding personality
  • Valid drivers license and clean driving record

Preferred Skills and Attributes:

  • Previous experience working with a First Nation Organization
  • General understanding of the First Nations consultation process
  • Professional specializations in any of the following: faunal analysis, human osteology, lithic analysis, statistical analysis, geoarchaeology, paleobotany, or remote sensing techniques
