Archaeologist – Field Director

Ridgeline is seeking a Field Director for a full-time salaried position based out of Prince George, BC. Our growing company has recently obtained several long-term contracts and requires a full time Field Director to join the team in our Prince George office.  Your work responsibilities will be split approximately 50/50 between the office and field work throughout the year.

Responsibilities

  • Planning and coordinating logistics and crews for field work
  • Supervising and assisting with artifact analysis, reporting, and permitting
  • Assisting with project management tasks, as required
  • Mentoring and training junior archaeologists and First Nations representatives
  • Model and monitor our Policies, Procedures, and Safety requirements
  • Prepare and maintain field equipment and vehicles
  • Manage field surveys in remote wilderness area and in inclement weather
  • Maintain crew safety and morale while providing healthy team leadership
  • Process field data and provide constructive feedback for crews

Minimum Requirements and Qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology or Anthropology with a minimum of three (3) years’ archaeological field experience
  • Eligible for, or currently holds, Field Director status in the Interior Plateau culture area under Bulletin 17 of the BC Archaeology Branch
  • Previous experience in supervising archaeological assessments in forestry, performing excavations and monitoring site mitigations
  • Proven ability to mentor and train staff
  • Confident and capable of providing safe leadership outdoors and in remote and physically challenging wilderness locations
  • Available to work out of hotels or camps and commute on busy forestry roads and sometimes from boat or helicopter
  • At ease working around both wildlife and domestic animals

Preferred Skills and Attributes:

  • First Aid, Bear Aware, WHMIS, ATV, S100, and Wilderness training
  • Strong aptitude for technical writing and reporting
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently within a diverse team
  • Discretion and respect for confidentiality
  • Valid driver’s license and suitable drivers abstract

Remuneration:

  • Starting annual salary between $70,000 – 75,000
  • RRSP contributions after 1 year
  • Medical and Dental benefits package after 3 months
  • Training allowance for professional development
  • 3 weeks paid holiday the first year and 4 after 12 months
