Job: Archaeologist

Millennia Research Limited, located in Victoria, is looking for an experienced archaeologist to fill a full-time position. Millennia is a company that provides archaeological services to a wide variety of clients in British Columbia. With nearly 20 employees and offices next to the Galloping Goose Regional Park we offer a pleasant work environment, bicycle-friendly commuting, and a chance to work in a company at the leading edge in the use of technological advances in archaeology.

Successful candidate is strongly preferred to be a BC Archaeology Branch approved Coastal Field Director (as per Bulletin 17). Those that can demonstrate that they are very close to obtaining this will also be considered. Preference will be given to candidates with province-wide permit holding status. Candidates will be able to demonstrate that they are sufficiently familiar with coastal artifacts, sites, and typical protocols to be able to provide interim management direction.

Other requirements of the job:

  • MA or higher in Anthropology/Archaeology with 3+ years experience working in consulting; or, BA with 4+ years experience in consulting;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Comfortable providing direction to other team members;
  • Demonstrated report writing skills with experience writing, editing, and completing interim ‘blanket’ project reports with a preference for senior authorship of major reports. Candidates will reference permit reports on PARL on which they are senior authors;
  • Experience managing multiple projects simultaneously;
  • Experience creating, tracking, and managing budgets;
  • Experience/training in personnel management and interpersonal conflict resolution;
  • WCB OFA Level 1 (transportation endorsement an asset);
  • a valid BC driver’s licence;
  • willingness to travel.

Applicants must be highly organized, and must demonstrate high level supervisory abilities, as well as exceptional communication skills with clients, government regulators and First Nations. Preference will be given to applicants who are members of the BCAPA. Good physical fitness preferred. Work may take place in all areas of BC, so candidate must be prepared to spend time away from home.

Duties will include, but not be limited to:

  • Fieldwork
  • Liaison with clients, First Nations and regulators
  • Budget tracking and management by project and task;
  • Attending staff meetings;
  • Coordinating with field staff, GIS staff, and senior managers to determine upcoming project needs;
  • Directing junior staff in field and on other tasks;
  • Conducting a preliminary review of electronic information for quality assessment;
  • Uploading field data to Millennia’s management database and communicating with GIS staff regarding data;
  • Siteform preparation and review;
  • Writing AOA, PFR, AIA interim and final reports;
  • Proposal preparation.
