Job: Archaeologist

Location Sunshine Coast, BC

In Situ Consulting is seeking an Archaeologist to join our team on the Sunshine Coast, BC. The expected start date for this position is Spring 2019.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Produce technical reports and assist Field Director in conducting archaeological fieldwork, including but not limited to:

  • Active participation in archaeological field assessments
  • Acquiring field experience and knowledge from senior staff with the intention of taking on further responsibilities within the organization
  • Upon demonstrated ability, assist Field Director(s) with any/all fieldwork tasks and responsibilities

Roles and tasks include:

  • Participation in archaeological fieldwork (forestry survey, excavation, monitoring)
  • Timely completion of archaeological assessment reports and compilation of related documentation
  • Effective management and/or compilation of resource data and inventory
  • Archival and background research, which may involve travel
  • Meet Project Manager expectations of deliverables

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Valid Class 5 Driver License
  • Canadian Citizen
  • Consistent availability to work away from home office at remote jobsites and offices
  • Undergraduate degree in Archaeology/Anthropology/Earth Sciences

Desirable Certifications:

  • Valid First Aid Level 1 & Transportation Endorsement
  • Valid H2S, WHMIS 2015, TDG
  • ATV Rider Safety & Snow Pro (preferred)
  • Bear Aware

Preference given to those with the following skills/experience:

  • Demonstrated proficiency in compiling and writing consulting level archaeological impact assessment reports
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Professional suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Ability to interpret maps
  • Basic knowledge of surficial geology and/or landscape archaeology
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team environment, taking direction from Project Director
  • Prior experience liaising with First Nations, Proponents, regulatory bodies, land agents, and landowners
  • Ability to work effectively with a diverse crew to effectively facilitate fieldwork and report compilation
  • Detail oriented with an aptitude for technical editing
  • Archaeologists to participate in archaeological fieldwork throughout Coastal British Columbia.
  • Demonstrated ability to take effective field notes
  • Demonstrated ability to navigate in a forestry context
  • Field experience (field school, co-op term, field assistant)
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance and in a team environment
  • Basic understanding of lithic technology, GPS terminology & mapping techniques
  • Safe operation of vehicles, ATV, snowmobiles, etc.
