WSP Golder has a new opportunity for an Archaeological Field Technician to join our Heritage team in our Fort St. John location on a term contract basis. This position is to support a specific project that will have a 10-on 4-off work shift.

Start date is approximately August 1st and will run until freeze up at a minimum, and likely into the winter.

For the role: 

  • You will carry out archaeological survey, test excavation and mitigative excavation in cultural resources management under the direction of the Field Crew Supervisor and in compliance with Heritage Conservation Act permits
  • You will work with Indigenous community members in a respectful and collaborative manner
  • You will maintain a high standard of ethical behavior to uphold WSP Golder’s reputation and demonstrate a commitment to our Core Values
  • You will work in a variety of environments, such as all-weather conditions, rugged and semi-remote locations, and overnight accommodations in a camp or hotel setting
  • You will perform other duties as required, including but not limited to, artifact analysis, reporting, and research
  • You will demonstrate a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
  • You will comply with our Fit for Duty Policy.

You will have a background in:

  • An Archaeology or Anthropology undergraduate degree (or nearing completion) would be an asset, but is not required for this position
  • Strong interpersonal skills and an ability to work effectively with Indigenous representatives
  • Basic knowledge of British Columbia archaeology would be an asset
  • Able to work in varying terrain and weather conditions
  • Ability to do strenuous field work, including hiking in uneven terrain, carrying heavy loads and manual excavating
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to take direction and work in both a team environment and independently
  • Valid driver’s license (Class 5)
  • ATV/UTV and First Aid Certification would be considered an asset
